This is a Civil Defense message for Monday 01-26-2026 at 10:26 AM.
The volcanic eruption that occurred Saturday at Halema‘uma‘u Crater on Kilauea produced significant volcanic debris, especially in neighboring communities near the summit. Tephra, Pele’s Hair, and ash are fine glass particles that can irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory system.
Residents that have volcanic debris on their roof or have a water catchment system should take this time to disconnect their catchment tank and clear the volcanic debris from the roof and gutter.
For residents that need further assistance, please complete this Community Needs Assessment and Request for Assistance Survey. Please click here to access the survey.
If you need assistance but do not have access to the survey, please call Civil Defense at 808-935-0031.
You will be informed should conditions change.
