Each year, the Hawai‘i Department of Health conducts surveys to learn about health behaviors and attitudes of Hawai‘i residents. Beginning later this month, the department will launch the Hawai‘i Health and Media Survey to learn more about how people access and respond to health-related information.

Registration for summer courses at a lowered tuition rate for Hawaiʻi residents is open at all seven University of Hawai‘i Community Colleges, providing students with an accelerated and cost-effective way to earn credits. New research from Hawai‘i Pacific University shows that entanglement in monofilament fishing gear is now the primary cause of injury for stranded Hawaiian green sea turtles.
Measles case confirmed in child on Oʻahu; DOH notifies public of exposure locations
The Hawaiʻi Department of Health State Laboratories Division confirmed a case of measles in an unvaccinated child under 5 years of age on Oʻahu. The DOH is investigating the case to identify those who might have been exposed and is working with them to prevent the spread of disease.

Rainfall across most of Maui County was below average in March, according to the National Weather Service’s Monthly Precipitation Summary.

60-year-old injured hiker rescued from Ditch Trail in Kōke‘e
The woman and Kaua‘i resident was found about a half-mile into the trail off Camp 10 Road, also known as the Sugi Grove campsite, suffering from an apparent ankle injury. First responders used a combination of specialized equipment to safely extract her from the trail because of the challenging terrain.
74-year-old Kīlauea man dies after entering waters at North Shore beach during high surf advisory
Peter Koorenhof was unresponsive when he was pulled out of the water at Kalihiwai Beach the morning of April 7. An autopsy is pending to detemine his exact cause of death. Foul play is not suspected.
