Brown water advisory canceled for Big Island after almost a week

The advisory was issued Jan. 31 by the Hawaiʻi Department of Health Clean Water Branch for the entire island because of stormwater runoff entering coastal waters from heavy rains associated with the significant winter storm that moved through the state at the end of last week.

Non-resident fishing licenses expected to generate $1M annually

Hawai‘i is joining other ocean states and now requires a license for recreational ocean fishing for non-Hawai‘i residents. Revenues from license sales will be used exclusively to support fishing in the state.

More modular homes to be delivered to Lahaina for wildfire survivors

Motorists are advised of potential traffic delays as modular homes for wildfire survivors are transported from Kahului to the state’s Ka Laʻi Ola housing site in Lahaina. Hauling will take place nightly on Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8, along with Feb. 12 through 14, all beginning at 9:30 p.m.

Impaired Driving Enforcement Campaign

Beginning Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, and continuing through the weekend, the Maui Police Department – Traffic Division will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols at various locations to address impaired driving over the Big Game weekend.

Hawaiʻi residents advised to review insurance policies, consider flood coverage

“With the recent local forecasts including possible flooding and strong winds, we are reminded that natural disasters can be unpredictable, and flooding can happen anytime and anywhere,” said acting state Insurance Commissioner Jerry Bump.
