Honoka‘a motorcyclist killed in Waikōloa crash

45-year-old David Franklin Roland was driving a gray 2006 Honda VTX1300C east in the westbound bicycle lane near the 2-mile marker of Waikōloa Road (Highway 19) Friday night when he sideswiped a gray 2023 Jeep Wrangler SUV that was heading west.

21-year-old Akira Kauilani of Kailua-Kona was arrested for reckless endangering, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant and other traffic-related offenses following the incident that happened just after 3 a.m. the morning of April 4 at the intersection of Konalani Street and Palani Road while police were responding to the scene of an early morning traffic crash.
