High surf advisory takes effect at midnight Wednesday for west shores of Big Island
Surf of 7 to 10 feet is expected to build along the Kohala and Kona coastlines, producing strong breaking waves and strong currents that will make swimming and potentially other ocean activities dangerous. Large surf could also persist into Thursday.

83-year-old Minnesota visitor critically injured in Hilo traffic crash
The collision happened at about 2 p.m. Monday. Police report that a Dodge Ram was turning left onto Kapi‘olani Street from Ponahawai Street when it struck the elderly Minnesota man while he was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk.
