Hawai‘i Island police warn public of scam callers impersonating officers

According to Hawai‘i Island police, a scammer posed as a police sergeant, leaving a message for the victim saying they were “calling from the Hawai‘i Police Department regarding an important ongoing legal matter.” In other instances, scammers were asking people to buy Apple cards.

Update: High surf warning extended again for Big Island’s west coast as treacherous conditions persist

Dangerously large breaking waves of 10 to 14 feet are continuing to pound western shores of the Big Island. Another reinforcing northwest swell will swiftly build in later tonight into Tuesday, and an even larger swell will build into the region from Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Kīlauea summit eruption remains paused, but glow from lava lake persists

Summit tiltmeters on the Big Island volcano reversed from deflationary tilt to inflationary tilt at about the same time the lava fountain shut down Friday. Rapid change from deflation to inflation at the onset of each of the eruptive episodes suggests another episode could erupt in the coming days to weeks if summit magma chambers repressurize sufficiently.

Case commends Biden’s formal recognition of Hui Panalāʻau

Large, treacherous breaking waves of 20 to 25 feet forecast today for north shores of Kauaʻi and Niʻihau, increasing to 25 to 35 feet by Tuesday; west shores continue to be slammed by breakers of 15 to 20 feet today, increasing to 20 to 25 feet Tuesday, with a reinforcing northwest swell swiftly building in later tonight into Tuesday.
