‘Famous Amos’ founder Wally Amos dies at 88

Wallace “Wally” Amos founded the Famous Amos cookie empire but eventually lost ownership and the rights to the catchy name. He later opened Chip & Cookie in Hawaii, where he moved in 1977. In recent decades, he became an inspirational speaker and literacy advocate, serving as the Literacy Volunteers of America spokesman until 2002. His children said Amos, who had been battling dementia, died peacefully in his home in Honolulu, with his wife Carol at his side.
