More than 83 dogs and cats were microchipped and licensed during the 2 and a half hours of the clinic. Community members also showed eagerness to participate, with attendees scratching at the door to get in early.

What are your thoughts on the Public Safety Power Shutoff program?
  • I think it’s a great idea. It will save lives.
  • I think it puts people at risk. Losing power means losing ability to power medical supplies.
  • It’s hard to say. The program hasn’t been engaged at this point.
  • Not sure about the program, but I like the weather camera stations.
  • I don’t know enough about the program to say if it’s helpful or not.
  • There is no simple answer to protecting against wildfires. But I’m open to the program.

Left turn pocket on Honoapi‘ilani Highway fronting Lahaina Civic Center will be lengthened

Work hours for the restriping are from 8 p.m., tonight, Wednesday, Aug. 14, to 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15. During the work, the left lanes will be closed in both directions. There will be one lane open in each direction. A portion of the left turn pocket to turn into Leiali‘i Parkway will remain open for drivers wanting to make the turn from southbound Honoapi‘ilani Highway.
