FEMA reminds residents impacted by Kona Low that help continues after registration deadline

The deadline to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance for the March 10–24, 2026 Kona Low flooding has passed. However, FEMA and its partners want impacted residents in the City and County of Honolulu, and Hawaiʻi and Maui counties to know that support continues and, in some circumstances, late applications may still be considered.

Gas Watch: prices continue to ease ahead of Independence Day travel

In Kahului, the average price is $5.63 per gallon, down two cents from last week and $1.19 higher than a year ago. AAA Hawaiʻi expects travel volumes to remain near record levels during the Independence Day holiday period, with most travelers choosing to take road trips.

DOH reports travel-related dengue virus case in Oʻahu visitor

The Hawai‘i Department of Health has identified a new travel-related dengue virus case on Oʻahu involving a visitor. As this case involves a nonresident, it is not included in Hawaiʻi’s official dengue case count, which remains at five cases statewide. The affected individual was exposed to the virus while traveling in a region where dengue is common.

Maui County FCU teams up with The Salvation Army for the 2026 Adopt a Backpack School Supply Drive

Now through July 18, 2026, residents across Maui are encouraged to bring new school supplies or contribute monetary donations to any Maui County FCU branch location in Kahului, Lahaina, or Wailuku. All donations will be directed toward The Salvation Army’s Adopt a Backpack program for students facing financial hardship throughout Maui County.

Native Hawaiian adults face mobility challenges earlier in life

Researchers at University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s Hā Kūpuna National Resource Center for Native Hawaiian Elders found that 28% of Native Hawaiian adults ages 55 and older reported mobility limitations compared with 17% to 19% of white, Filipino and Japanese adults.

Lane closures scheduled at Ala Kinoiki, Poʻipū Road intersection
