The stepped-up fighting, coming just after the U.S. hosted Israeli-Lebanon peace talks in Washington on Friday, dimmed expectations that the U.S. and Iran could soon announce an extension to their ceasefire agreement, which had driven Brent and WTI to settle up 1.8% and 1.7%, respectively, on Friday. U.S. military is quietly guiding ships through the Strait of Hormuz
U.S. Central Command has guided about 70 commercial ships through the strait, traveling into and out of the Persian Gulf, in the past three weeks, one of the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss operational matters. The U.S. officials added that most of the vessels had turned off their transponders to avoid detection when going through the narrow waterway. Read more
Netanyahu orders deeper Israeli incursion into Lebanon to hit Hezbollah
The incursion has so far killed more than 3,370 people, according to the Lebanese government. Israel says 24 of its soldiers and four civilians have been killed over the same period.
