Major structure fire closes streets in downtown Hilo

HILO, Hawaii (Island News) – A major structure fire caused multiple street closures along with damaged lines in downtown Hilo.

The alert came in at about 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning from the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency.

The Agency reported that the Hawaii Police Department responded to a structural fire that occurred earlier in the morning at the intersection of Kinoole and Haili St. in downtown Hilo.

As a result of the fire, police closed off multiple streets in the area as Fire and utility crews were on scene working on the fire and repairing damaged lines.

Officials are asking the public to stay clear of the area and use alternate routes.

No other information has been provided at this time, regarding what started the fire, if any injuries were reported, or what the current status of the fire is.
