A male resident was surfing near the Pine Trees surf break when he was bitten on the leg, according to Kauai’s Ocean Safety Bureau. Read more

Honolulu-bound UPS plane crash kills 12; ‘black boxes’ found
The plane was engulfed in a fireball, igniting a string of blazes and scattering a debris field that stretched about a half a mile through an industrial corridor, including a petroleum recycling facility that was set ablaze and exploded. Read more
Man, 67, in serious condition after being struck by car
EMS responded at 8 a.m. to the scene at Lanakila Avenue and North Kuakini Street after the man was struck by a vehicle. Read more
Arrest warrant issued for Maui man in felony theft case
State law enforcement officials are asking for the public’s help in locating Jeffrey William Snyder, 57, who is wanted on a $50,000 warrant of arrest. Read more
Kauai woman, 25, dies after head-on collision
According to police, at about 6:30 p.m., Kalima was driving a 2006 Honda sedan eastbound on Kuamoo near Melia Street, when she crossed a center line and collided head-on with a 2019 Nissan van heading in the opposite direction. Read more
U.S. to slash air traffic by 10% at 40 airports amid shutdown
The shutdown, now in its 36th day, has forced 13,000 air traffic controllers and 50,000 Transportation Security Administration officers to work without pay. This has worsened staff shortages, caused widespread flight delays and extended lines at airport security screening. Read more
