Public Can Now Submit Project Ideas, Suggestions to Green Fee Advisory Council

The Green Fee Advisory Council is now accepting ideas from the public for projects that could receive Green Fee funding. Each submission must include information such as the impact area(s), cost, geography and potential partnerships with local government agencies. Ideas and suggestions can be submitted via the council website.

State Insurance Commissioner Surveys the Local Landscape

Earlier this year, there were rumblings that Hawaiʻi could lose one of its insurance carriers because of the turmoil in the industry. This month the news became official. DTRIC Insurance will no longer underwrite new business, though it will honor its current customers. The Conversation talked to state Insurance Commissioner Scott Saiki about the insurance landscape.

UH President Speaks on Federal Funding Cuts

Federal workers will face their first missed paycheck next week due to the federal government shutdown. Some University of Hawaiʻi employees will be a part of that group. At a Board of Regents meeting on Oct. 16, UH President Wendy Hensel revealed her hopes to continue providing for the students, protect mission-critical programs and employee funding.

Hawaiian Airlines Will Say Aloha to ‘HA’ Code After Nearly 95 Years

Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines will begin the process of operating under a single call sign by Oct. 26, 2025. Hawaiian has flown under the code “HA” since 1929 and it will be officially retired in April 2026.
