Electric utility urges vigilance as it received 10 fraud reports since mid-June from businesses on Oʻahu saying scammers threatened to diconnect power. Two businesses were scammed into making cash payments.

The Maui County Council’s Housing and Land Use Committee, chaired by Council Member Tasha Kama, began its much anticipated review and deliberations on Bill 9 this morning. The controversial measure aims to phase out thousands of transient vacation rentals in apartment-zoned districts mostly in South and West Maui.

Hawaiian Electric tests goat grazing as vegetation management option for landowners

In May, 15 goats were set up in within a fenced 1-acre area of Upcountry Maui and cleared the vegetation within eight days.

Erosion near Mile 14 of Honoapiʻilani in Olowalu prompts call for traffic emergency zone designation

An approximately 150-foot-long stretch of the makai lane on Honoapi‘ilani Highway is being undermined just about half mile south of Olowalu Village. Immediate actions include moving the existing barricades along the makai shoulder further mauka. Other work will include stabilizing the shoreline and pushing lanes more mauka.

Kaua‘i Police Department reports 25-year-old Sione Tuulangavalu from Anahola was taken into custody the morning of July 2 and arrested on burglary, theft and habitual property crime charges in connection with the June 23 incident in Kapa‘a.

Girl Scouts of Hawai‘i launches statewide drive to reach every public elementary school

Girl Scouts of Hawaiʻi beginning in August will fund trained facilitators to lead troops in close geographic regions throughout the state, each serving about 10 troops and 150 girls. The approach expands on a successful model already in place at 25 Title I schools.
