Hōkūleʻa, Hikianalia arrive at center of Pacific voyaging heritage, Taputapuātea
The double-hulled wa‘a now are anchored off Papeʻetē, Tahiti, departing Taputapuātea early because of forecasted weather. They are expected to spend about a month in French Polynesia before continuing on the Moananuiākea Voyage, with subsequent stops this year in the Cook Islands, Sāmoa, Tonga and Aotearoa — the Māori name for New Zealand.

UPDATE: Lava geysers reach heights up to about 1,100 feet before Episode 27 of Kīlauea summit eruption ends
High fountains lasted nearly 11 hours and produced about 1.6 bilion gallons of lava, covering 80% of the Halemaʻumaʻu Crater floor within the Big Island volcano’s summit caldera. Lava flows from this episode could continue to exhibit slow movement or incandescence throughout the coming days.

Hawai’i County Civil Defense and Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park ask the public to be aware that traffic congestion is an issue in and around the park, with reports on social media saying to expect delays just getting into the park and traveling through the Volcano area. They also offer tips to see the spectacular geysers of molten rock is safe.

Police responding to the scene determined the teen was driving south on Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway in West Hawai‘i in a black 2023 Toyota Camry, when it veered off the roadway, struck several large rocks and overturned multiple times.

Kaua‘i first responders were dispatched at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Sunday to Kaʻakaʻaniu Beach, also known as Larsen’s Beach, in Moloaʻa, after receiving a report that a man from Kīlauea had gone missing while diving.

Kaua‘i Fire Department responded to the blaze on Hoi Road shortly after 12:30 a.m. When crews arrived on scene, firefighters discovered a residence on fire.
