Robbery suspect taken into custody after swimming into Hilo Bay to evade arrest
According to Hawai‘i Island police, officers responded to the Bayfront shoreline on Sunday at 10:46 a.m., just east of the Mo‘oheau Bus Terminal on Highway 19, to investigate a robbery complaint, where the suspect entered the bay.

CNHA acquires Nā Mea Hawaiʻi to expand Native Hawaiian business ecosystem
The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement announced the acquisition of Nā Mea Hawaiʻi, a cultural retail institution that has served Hawai‘i for more than two decades. County solicits applications for FY2026 community-based mental health programs
The County of Maui Department of Human Concerns is soliciting grant proposals for mental health programs to support community-based initiatives in areas impacted by the August 2023 Maui wildfires in Lahaina and Kula.
Anglers cast lines as trout season opens at Pu‘u Lua Reservoir on Kauaʻi
The opening of the annual fishing season at Koke‘e on Kauaʻi, brought anglers of all ages to Pu‘u Lua Reservoir to catch rainbow trout. The reservoir was stocked earlier with 22,000 trout, the largest number ever.
Kahikinui fire 80% contained; revised to 330 acres burned
The size of the Kahikinui brush fire has been revised downward from the previous estimate of 500 acres to 330 acres after Air One flew the perimeter of the burn area with a flight tracker. Fire officials say the remote, challenging terrain does not support walking and acreage estimates have varied. Currently, smoldering fire conditions continue throughout the burn area. Fire officials say the Kahikinui blaze was 80% contained as of 8 a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2025.
Portions of War Memorial and Keōpūolani complexes to close briefly for events, training
Areas of the War Memorial and Keōpūolani complexes in Kahului will be closed briefly this week for events and training, according to the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation.
