State commission delays decision on rate increase for private utility company on Big Island
The Punaluʻu Water and Sanitation utility has not raised rates in nearly 50 years and said without rate increases it will not be able to continue to provide water and sewer to its customers.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, recipients who get “DA BUX” benefits receive an access card they swipe before their electronic benefits transfer, or EBT, card at checkout to get 50% off qualifying fruits and vegetables grown in Hawaiʻi at participating grocery stores.

Volcano Watch: A collapse at Mauna Loa’s summit in 1868, like Kīlauea’s in 2018?
There seems to be enough evidence of some sort of collapse happening, which remains the only such event in the volcano’s documented history, simultaneously with a dramatic eruption that caused Hawai’i’s largest ever recorded earthquake, a magnitude-7.9 temblor that resulted in a tsunami and landslide in Ka’u that killed more than 100 people and lava flows that inundated 9 square miles.

67-year-old Richard Lopez and his 64-year-old girlfriend of 17 years, who he stabbed multiple times, were visiting the island and staying at the Waikōloa Beach Marriot Resort on Sept. 1, 2022, when the incident happened.

Probable cause documents filed on Monday provide more detail about the shooting and the three-day manhunt that ended in Christopher Lucrisia, the alleged shooter of the officer, dying in a shootout with police on Sunday.
