Nearly 30 motorists arrested for DUI during week of Feb. 24-March 3
Hawai‘i Police Department officers have made a total of 171 arrests of motorists driving under the influence of an intoxicant during the first two full months of the year. While it’s just 3 more than during the same time period in 2024, it represents a 1.8% hike in DUI citations.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies highway users of potential traffic delays from March 10-14 as crews will be drilling for soil samples in and along state highways, which will assist the department in maintaining and improving its roadways.
Modular home transport continues for wildfire survivors
Hauling will take place nightly at 9 p.m., from Wednesday, March 12 through Friday, March 14. The transport will involve trucks in a caravan that will move the homes from the staging area near the Kahului small boat ramp along Kahului Beach Road (Route 3400) to Lahaina.
Hawaiʻi County reaches $70M COVID-19 hazard pay agreements
Hawaiʻi County Mayor Kimo Alameda announced that the County of Hawaiʻi has signed agreements for COVID-19 hazard pay with the Hawaiʻi Government Employees Association and Hawaiʻi Fire Fighters Association. Additionally, tentative agreements are being finalized with the other two public sector unions representing County employees: the State of Hawaiʻi Organization of Police Officers and United Public Workers.
Ocean Camp program offers Maui students an educational adventure, March 17-21
Pacific Whale Foundation’s Spring Ocean Camp for kids in grades 2-5, takes place from March 17 to March 21. The camp gives children an opportunity to interact with the ocean environment in a fun and educational way during their spring break.

Advisory in effect through 6 p.m. Saturday for those shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau as National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu say a reinforcing northwest swell will steadily fill in tonight and peak Saturday at advisory thresholds.
Waimea Cook Field to be closed for improvement, repair project
The facility will be shuttered from March 10 to January 2026. Parking along the west side of Ola Road, from the tennis courts to Kaumuali‘i Highway, will be closed to the public during the project. Parking along Tsuchiya Road adjacent to the tennis courts will also be off-limits.
