Update: High surf warning extended through today for Big Island western shores

National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu say surf along western shores remains at warning levels of 8 to 12 feet this morning as a large northwest swell that peaked Friday evening gradually declines.

Update: Surf falls to advisory levels as large northwest swell continues to gradually decline

Surf of 15 to 22 feet is still churning along the North Shore this morning but is forecast to fall to to 10 to 18 feet this afternoon. West shores are still seeing breakers of 10 to 18 feet, but surf along those coastlines is expected to decline to 9 to 15 feet later today.

Friday night update: More vigorous fountaining reported at Kīlauea

Fountaining was happening Friday night in bursts of up to 30 to 45 feet high from the two most northern vents within the Big Island volcano’s summit caldera inside Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.
