U.S. Coast Guard Sector Honolulu watchstanders received a report at 3:22 p.m. Monday from the captain of fishing vessel Honua-‘Oe requesting a medevac for a 51-year-old man who injured his abdomen when he fell into a porthole.

Kīlauea summit eruption pauses again after more than 24 hours of vigorous activity

Vigorous fountaining from vents in the southwest corner of Halemaʻmaʻu Crater within Kaluapele, the volcano’s summit caldera, rapidly died down a few minutes just before 11 a.m. Lava then began draining back into tthe vent at nearly the same time summit tiltmeters started recording a change from deflation to inflation.

The Coast Guard medevaced an ailing man from a fishing vessel 8 miles northeast of Honokaʻa, Hawaiʻi, Monday.

Single lane closure on Main Street in Wailuku for sidewalk work

One lane on Main Street (Route 32) in Wailuku between Mile Posts 0.21 and 0.23 will be closed for sidewalk replacement work as part of the Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) Black Box Theater project.

Episode 2 of the summit eruption at Kīlauea hits another pause on Christmas Day

Episode 2 of the eruption at Kīlauea lasted a little over 24 hours, which is about twice the duration of the first eruptive episode. Prior summit eruptions have lasted days to weeks and scientists with the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory say there is a high probability that this eruption will resume if the summit re-pressurizes over the coming days.

High Surf Warning until 6 p.m. Friday

A High Surf Warning is in effect for the north facing shores of Maui and the north and west facing shores of Molokaʻi due to elevated surf building to 8 to 12 feet along impacted shores.

Update: Forecast wave heights increase; high surf warning extended for north and west shores

Breaker heights are now forecast at 20 to 30 feet before rapidly building to 25 to 35 feet this afternoon along north shorelines as a significant west-northwest swell moves through the islands, with surf of 18 to 24 feet increasing to 22 to 26 feet this afternoon along west shores.
