Update: All high surf advisories canceled for Big Island

Surf has finally dropped below advisory levels for the first time since early last week. Hawai‘i County Civil Defense said all county beach parks that were closed because of the high surf event are expected to open by noon today.

Update: Kīlauea eruption appears to be paused

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports that at about 3 p.m. today, tilt at the summit stopped showing deflation and seismic tremor began decreasing. By 3:30 p.m., lava fountains were barely visible, and by 4 p.m. fountaining had stopped and seismic tremor was close to background levels. Visible volcanic gas emissions also decreased significantly.

County crews work to repair water main break in North Kohala

According to Hawai‘i County’s Department of Water Supply, customers in the affected area will have no water service while crews repair a water main break.

Kā‘anapali and First Tee Hawai‘i to host Maui Junior Golf Kickoff

Ahead of the 2025 edition of The Sentry, Kā‘anapali Golf Courses and First Tee Hawai‘i will host a free interactive event for juniors aged 3 to 18 in support of First Tee Hawai‘i. All are welcome on Dec. 30, 2024 from 2 to 4 p.m. on the Kā‘anapali driving range. Golf clubs for juniors will also be available for use. Public reminded about county holiday closures

Kaua‘i County offices and services, as well as several other facilities, will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Regular business hours will resume the following day after each holiday.

Public libraries to close in observance of holidays

The library in Kapa‘a also will have adjusted hours today, Christmas Eve, and on New Year’s Eve.
