Hawai‘i County Civil Defense reports several beaches are closed through Sunday. National Weather Service forecasters expect peak surf heights of 8 to 12 feet along Kona and Kohala shores and 12 to 16 feet for north-facing shores of the Big Island.

The state divisions of Aquatic Resources and Boating and Ocean Recreation have been working together since 2021 through its Rapid Response Program to provide funding to nonprofits throughout Hawaiʻi to aid in marine debris cleanup efforts.

Motorists should plan ahead as a Hawaiian Electric crew will replace a utility pole from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Māmalahoa Highway, north of the Hawai‘i Island Humane Society.
