Volcano Watch: Quantifying corrosion downwind of Kīlauea
A team of scientists from Aotearoa New Zealand teamed up with scientists from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory in December 2022 to carry out a small pilot study of atmospheric corrosion rates on the Island of Hawai‘i.

State alerts residents about recalled carrots linked to multistate E. coli outbreak
There had been one death, 39 reported illnesses and 15 hospitalizations as of Nov. 19 in 18 states connected with the outbreak. State health officials are investigating if the carrots have caused illness or adverse effects in Hawaiʻi.

Motorists on Maui are advised of potential traffic delays beginning Monday, Nov. 25, as crews check pavement quality on 13 state highways on the island. The data will allow HDOT to be proactive in repairing roads before they show signs of distress.
Temporary closures planned for Central Maui, Kīhei pools
The Kīhei Aquatic Center training pool and Kōkua Pool in Kahului will be closed for deep cleaning of the pools’ surfaces from Nov. 24, 2024 to Dec.1, 2024. Coach Soichi Sakamoto Pool in Wailuku will be closed from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, for physical swim testing for the recruitment of pool guard trainees.
