Republicans Lose a House Seat, New Faces Joining Legislature
Hawaiʻi Republicans lost one state representative in the 76-member state Legislature early Wednesday morning when the first Election Day tallies were released. At the same time, several Democratic freshmen representatives were elected, and they will vote on laws affecting the entire state when the next legislative session convenes in January.

Hawaiʻi Voters Supporting Same-Sex Marriage Ballot Measure
The amendment would remove discriminatory language from the state’s constitution. Another question on judicial selection is poised for passage.

Trump Retakes the Presidency but Hawaii Prefers Harris
Vice President Kamala Harris won Hawaiʻi and the state’s four electoral votes on Wednesday. It’s the 10th straight presidential election in which Hawaii has selected the Democratic Party candidate.

Hawaiʻi’s Congressional Incumbents Cruise to Reelection
Three-fourths of Hawaiʻi’s congressional delegation cruised to re-election as U.S. Sen. Mazie K. Hirono and Reps. Jill Tokuda and Ed Case held insurmountable leads over their opponents in the first vote tally released early this morning. Hawaiʻi’s congressional delegation will have to work for federal resources for Hawaiʻi with the White House and U.S. Senate, and possibly the House, controlled by Republicans.

Hawaiʻi County 2024 Election Results, Alameda Wins Mayoral Race
Dr. Kimo Alameda will be the next Hawaiʻi County Mayor, following an election night victory over incumbent Mayor Mitch Roth. As of the latest election summary report, Alameda had received 35,577 votes (51.2%) compared to Roth’s 30,717 (44.2%) in Tuesday’s general election run-off.

James Hustace Leading Incumbent Cindy Evans in Race for Hawai‘i County Council Seat
Evans, who is running for a second term to represent North and South Kohala in District 9, received 3,192 votes. Hustace garnered 4,191.

Cook Leads King to Keep Council Seat
Maui voters were favoring City Council incumbents in the first general election since deadly wildfires consumed nearly all of Lahaina and parts of Upcountry, but one pivotal race was extremely tight Wednesday morning. In the South Maui district, incumbent Tom Cook was leading former Councilwoman Kelly King, 41.6% to 41.4%. Just 117 votes separated them. The latest results were released just after 6 a.m.

Striking Nurses and Health Care Workers Continue Three-Day Walkout
In the second day of a three-day walkout, hundreds of union health care workers walked picket lines and waved signs Tuesday outside Maui Health facilities in a labor dispute over safe staffing and wages.

Arc of Maui County Awarded $15,000 Grant for New Appliances From Nareit Foundation
The nonprofit Arc of Maui County received a $15,000 grant from the Nareit Foundation for the installation of new washing machines and dryers in the laundry rooms of four Maui group homes offering affordable housing to 20 residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
