Full reopening of Kalalau Trail in Nāpali Coast state park on Kauaʻi to be determined

However, the Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources is reopening a portion of the trail to Hanakāpīʻai for day use only beginning Sept. 21. Any hiking beyond that point could result in citations or arrests.

Now in its fourth phase of vent opening and lava production, the current phase is the eruption’s largest to date. Fountaining remained strong at the new vent site as of just before 10:30 a.m. today as observed on the S2 webcam.

Kīlauea volcano continues to erupt from new fissure vent

Kīlauea volcano continues to erupt in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park from the new fissure vent that opened just west of Nāpau Crater on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at around 3:15 p.m., according to a daily update from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. This is the fourth vent system of this eruption. The first fissures of this eruption occurred on the night of Sept. 15 on the middle East Rift Zone.

Gas Watch: Maui’s average fuel price 7 cents more per gallon than statewide average

Maui motorists are paying about seven cents more, on average, for an unleaded gallon of gas, compared with the “pain at the pump” for drivers statewide, according to AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The average price in Kahului was $4.69 as of this morning, and it was $4.62 statewide.
