Over 2,000 pounds of food collected during ‘Fill a Cruiser Food Drive’ in Kona

The four-hour fundraiser was held the Kona Costco parking lot on Aug. 30. The Food Basket will distribute all donated food items and use the monetary donations to help island residents in need.

Hilo man’s federal probation revoked after narcotics warrant turns up meth, pot, pistol and more

Car crashes through Hilo home’s living room, injuring 7-year-old boy

71-year-old Wayne Okutsu of Hilo, who was driving the car, was arrested for first-degree negligent injury and is being detained at the East Hawai‘i Detention Facility in Hilo. The investigation is ongoing.

Arc of Maui County celebrates 70th anniversary

Arc of Maui County, a local non-profit organization providing services to the intellectually and developmentally disabled community, celebrated its 70th anniversary in August.

Sacred Hearts School names Dr. Patty Wurst vice principal and curriculum director

Sacred Hearts School in Lahaina has announced the appointment of Dr. Patty Wurst as the new vice principal and curriculum director. Wurst has been a member of the Sacred Hearts ‘ohana since 2000.

Entire Kalalau Trail now closed due to norovirus; DOH recommends closure until at least Sept. 19

DOH has received reports of illness from at least 37 people who were hiking the Kalalau Trail and camping at a state campsite at Kalalau beach, though the actual number of affected people is estimated to be higher

County of Maui acquires Kula community center land for public use

The $950,000 sale closed on Sept. 6, 2024, on the Von Tempsky Community Center Complex, formerly the Kula Community Center. The area was renamed the Von Tempsky Community Complex after a bill was passed by Maui County Council in 2022 to honor the generational Upcountry family.
