What are your thoughts on the Public Safety Power Shutoff program?
  • I think it’s a great idea. It will save lives.
  • I think it puts people at risk. Losing power means losing ability to power medical supplies.
  • It’s hard to say. The program hasn’t been engaged at this point.
  • Not sure about the program, but I like the weather camera stations.
  • I don’t know enough about the program to say if it’s helpful or not.
  • There is no simple answer to protecting against wildfires. But I’m open to the program.

Hawaiʻi Supreme Court called upon as historic $4B Maui wildfire settlement faces hurdle from insurers

Second Circuit Court Judge Peter Cahill granted a motion on Friday to allow the Hawaiʻi Supreme Court to determine whether or not insurers can interfere with the historic $4.037 billion global settlement for plaintiffs in the Maui Wildfires Cases. The findings by the higher court could either provide more clarity on the role of insurers seeking to recoup money from payouts; or, if it does not reach a resolution in nine months, the settlement could be terminated.

Aerial war against bird-killing mosquitoes on Kaua‘i underway

On Kaua‘i, conservationists are flying a helicopter to spread a harmless bacterium in native forests inhabited by near-extinct honeycreepers, like the ‘akikiki.
