Another 77 matchups in the master, junior and open classes are on today’s race card, slated to start at 8 a.m. Overflow parking is now available at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

Corals reattached following possible anchor damage in area of Kewalo Basin seafloor off Honolulu
Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources Divison of Aquatic Resources divers will check on the colonies later this year to determine if further action is needed. Nonprofit Kuleana Coral Restoration is also conducting follow-up surveys and will submit updates to the state aquatic resources division and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Monies from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, out of the Inflation Reduction Act, will be used to identify translocation sites for 425 Hawaiian plants and improve their resiliency to climate change.

Part of Hilo street closed while police execute search warrant, arrest couple
31-year-old Dillon Royden Daimen Revila and 33-year-old Latoya-Lynn Pilialoha Spalding-Poepoe of Hilo face a slew of charges in connection with several separate vehicle thefts and an abuse incident spanning the past several months around the island. The also had outsanding warrants.

Today’s last race is expected to begin at 4:19 p.m., but the schedule can change. A medal ceremony is planned after matchups conclude for the day.

100-plus people, including original crew member John Kruse of Kauaʻi, lined Hanalei Pier to welcome the legendary double-hulled voyaging canoe and its crew Saturday morning. The vessel is expected to reach the Big Island on its journey toward the end of October.

County announces amended sewer service status for West Maui area
The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management’s Wastewater Reclamation Division announced that it has amended the Sewer Service Status from “red,” which indicates a property does not currently have active sewer service, to “green,” meaning the sewer service is active for a property, in the following area: Seven lots near Kahula Place and the southern end of Lahainaluna Road.

Monday Morning MIL: Little Leaguers advance, football and volleyball underway
“You can just tell there’s a big difference. You know, we’ve got a lot of young, inexperienced players and we’re grateful that they gave us an opportunity. It was a good gauge for us to see where we’re at, see what we need to work on as we move into our MIL season,” Lahainaluna head coach Dean Rickard said following his team’s preseason loss to Kapolei.
