Traffic fatalities increase by 17% statewide
Of the 59 fatalities this year, 12 reports listed excessive speeding as the primary factor, eight cited suspected impairment and additional reckless driving behaviors such as not wearing a helmet, and seven listed multiple contributing factors such as speed, reckless driving, and inattention.

20 motorists arrested for DUI during week of July 22-28 on Big Island roads
Kona had the most DUI arrests during the week with 8. Hilo came in at a close second with 6 followed by Puna with 5. There have been a total of 564 DUI arrests so far this year around the island.
