Everywhere you looked Saturday at Mo‘oheau Park and Bandstand in downtown Hilo, the party was hopping. Diversity was on display in several different senses of the word. Friends and family came together to have fun. Smiles and hugs were commonplace and given out freely. There was joy, laughter, happiness, inclusiveness and acceptance. The Crater Road fire is 70% contained at 574 acres as of 10 a.m. today. The fire perimeter held in place through the overnight operations period, aided by cooler temperatures. Helicopters are being used to cool eucalyptus grove. The area is spotted with small areas of smoke but poses no major threat to the perimeter.
