The defendant, Beau De Dier, was reportedly in possession of a loaded Ruger .357 caliber revolver while driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck on Kanoelehua Avenue in Hilo on June 13, 2024.

What is the most important trait of a responsible developer?
  • Paying attention to the ʻāina (land) and being a good steward of it.
  • Being a part of or at least respecting the host culture, including burial sites, traditions and heritage.
  • Protecting endangered plants and animals.
  • Providing employment opportunities that are sustainable and pay well.
  • Fitting the devlopment into the community’s way of life rather than the way of life being lost because of it.
  • Understanding the needs of the community where the development will be located.
  • The ability to actively listen to concerns and compromise when needed.
  • Knowing when to stop a project when they must.
  • All of the above.

Update: Police looking for vehicle involved in fatal hit-and-run in Kahului

Police say the man who died was known to frequent the area, and was lying in the roadway when an unknown vehicle drove over him. The vehicle was headed southwest on Lono Ave. towards Kaʻahumanu Ave. and the driver did not stop or render aid and fled the scene in an unknown direction, according to Maui police.
