Activity up slightly with increase in quakes under Kīlauea caldera, upper East Rift Zone

Seismicity remains above background levels. Ground deformation also continues beneath Halemaʻumaʻu and the south caldera region. Magma has been pressurizing the system beneath Halemaʻumaʻu and Kīlauea’s south caldera region for several weeks.

The money from former Hawai‘i resident liver transplant recipient John C. Couch will establish the first-ever gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship program at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa John A. Burns School of Medicine that will train physicians to treat liver diseases.

  • House Bill 2406, which would have imposed a climate-impact fee for visitors staying in hotels or other transient vacation accommodations.
  • Senate Bill 281, which would have established a state income tax deduction for eligible contributions made to the state’s college savings program.
  • House Bill 79, relating to media literacy in schools and negative impacts of of misinformation, disinformation, digital discrimination and online hate speech.
  • House Bill 540, relating to free breakfast and lunch for all enrolled students of the Hawai‘i Department of Education and public charter schools.
  • House Bill 1149, relating to infestation control of coconut rhinoceros beetles.
  • Senate Bill 587, relating to the installation of noisy exhaust pipes and mufflers on a vehicle.
