State to pay $449M for government worker pandemic hazard pay
The Hawaiʻi Government Employees Association accepted the state’s settlement offer for pandemic hazard pay. The cost is about $150 million over previous estimates by the Department of Budget and Finance. There are two tiers of compensation for government employees who worked in person between March 2020 and March 2022.

University of Hawai’i Board of Regents to host six public forums on the UH president’s search
The regents have scheduled six county forums to gather feedback from the general public to help inform the search for the next president of the 10-campus UH System, the state’s sole provider of public higher education. Each forum will be ninety minutes long and available in-person and virtually via Zoom. They will take place over a week-long period from April 30 to May 7, with two forums on Oʻahu and Hawaiʻi Island, and one forum each on Kauaʻi and Maui.

Ali‘iōlani Hale celebrates 150 years this weekend
Ali‘iōlani Hale— the “House of Heavenly Kings” — first opened its doors in 1874. It was commissioned by King Kamehameha V in 1872 and was completed nearly two years later. Now to celebrate, the Judiciary History Center located on the first floor of the building is hosting a community celebration of the Hale’s 150th anniversary. A public celebration will be held at the Hale this Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
