Grants now available for Maui small businesses affected by wildfire losses
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation is offering $5,000 grants to small business owners affected by the Maui fires. The first round of funding totals $500,000 for Maui-based businesses suffering fire losses. The grants can help cover critical expenses such as rent, utilities, payroll, inventory and more.

Police dog stabbed during confrontation with suspect in Wai‘anae standoff
An hours-long standoff has come to an end with a suspect in custody, Honolulu police said in an update on their social platforms Friday morning. HPD said the suspect sustained minor injuries after initially reporting he was not injured. They added that an HPD K-9 was injured and received medical treatment. Meanwhile, no HPD officers were hurt in the barricade situation.

Legislature urges transportation officials to add 2 red-light cameras in Pearl City
Two more red-light cameras could be installed on Oʻahu after the state Legislature passed a resolution urging the state and Honolulu departments of transportation to expand the program. The resolution suggests installing two more in Pearl City on Moanalua Road at its intersections with Kaʻahumanu and Kaonohi streets. Neighborhood Board Chair Larry Veray said the red-light cameras are needed to improve safety.

Honolulu Museum of Art announces free entry for SNAP benefit recipients
The Honolulu Museum of Art is taking part in Museums for All. It’s a national program run by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, where people with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits can show their SNAP card for free entry to the museum for up to four people.

Na Hōkū Hanohano Award-winning Na Leo Pilimehana will perform in a concert at Windward Community College’s Palikū Theatre on Wednesday, May 8 at 7p.m. The concert celebrates the female group’s 40th anniversary together and will also include music by Windward CC Assistant Professor of Music Kamuela Kimokeo and his 14-year-old son Ka‘ihi. Proceeds will go to the Kanile‘a ‘Ukulele Hawaiian Music Scholarship supporting music students at Windward CC.
