FEMA’s Public Assistance program has awarded $9.9 million to go toward the estimated $12.6 million new library cost, and the remaining amount will be covered by insurance and the state. State Librarian Stacey Aldrich said in the meantime, a bookmobile and story times are coming to the community at the Lahaina Civic Center.

Young Entrepreneurs Program aims to inspire Hawai‘i youth to innovate while sourcing local
 

The program is meant to empower middle and high school students to develop real-world profitable businesses that feature original locally sourced agricultural products. The DOE has partnered with the Hawai‘i Agricultural Foundation to launch an online marketplace to showcase the students’ products.

A Senate resolution is calling for the Hawai‘i Public Utilities Commission to open its own formal public proceeding, called a “docket.” So far, the PUC has held off on launching a wildfire investigation docket, citing concerns over duplicating efforts of other agencies and a lack of resources.

Puʻuhonua Society awards $60,000 to 10 O‘ahu artists, art collectives and artistic collaborators
 

Puʻuhonua Society’s granting program, Hoʻākea Source, in partnership with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts’ Regional Regranting Program, announces the inaugural group of 10 awardees receiving funds from $5,000 to $10,000. Grantees will have one year to bring to life a range of projects centered around ʻāina (that which feeds), pilina (relationality), and huli (change).
