Hawai‘i Island police did, however, recover 5.1 grams of illicit fentanyl last month, enough to kill 2,550 Big Island residents.

2-foot snake slithers into Hilo for the holidays among Christmas tree shipment
The gopher snake was discovered the morning of Nov. 16 by staff at a store that had unloaded about half of the trees from the container before the special delivery holiday hitchhiker was revealed.

State alerts residents about recalled carrots linked to multistate E. coli outbreak
There had been one death, 39 reported illnesses and 15 hospitalizations as of Nov. 19 in 18 states connected with the outbreak. State health officials are investigating if the carrots have caused illness or adverse effects in Hawaiʻi.
